Sudden Onset Left Visual Field Defect in a Patient with Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy

Abstract

|
We report a case of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy who presented with sudden onset visual field defect. A 41-year-old man complained of sudden onset left-sided visual defect and dizziness. Brain MRI disclosed multiple high signal intensity lesions involving bilateral parieto-occipital lobes and corpus callosum with positive serum human immunodeficiency virus antibody. With an impression of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy, we initiated highly active antiretroviral therapy, but the patient\’s clinical course worsened to near total blindness.
